The recent Kingscliff Kanu Challenge, race one of the South Queensland zone series, was a resounding success for TCO and our co-host Gold Coast Outrigger Canoe Club.

Over 500 entrants registered in the regatta making it one of the most outstanding regattas TCO has hosted.  From places as far as Noosa and Coffs Harbour, paddlers from up and down the coast hit out from Kingscliff beach in fiercely contested races.

Short course races heading out for 8km in calm conditions only to return into a solid southerly gust.  The long courses trekked up to Cook Island around the stunning marine reserve and tricky bommies.  Homeward bound, the Giant’s Causeway off Fingal Head threw up some rough but exciting conditions and the southerly kept the last leg ‘breezy’.

TCO extends a warm thank you to all volunteers who helped make this regatta so rewarding.  A big shout out to the Kingscliff Cudgen Surf Club for the amazing on water support – and the refreshing beverages at the bistro later on.

Congratulations to all who paddled especially the junior crews who, for some, was their first ocean race.
